    border express

Clayton South - Dispatch Assistant: Border Express 2009 - 2013 Clayton South - Dispatch Assistant After working at Richmond Wheel and Castor for the past year, I started working at Border Express Transport Company in 2009. I was working there as a Dispatch Coordinator. This role involves different duties within the dispatch department. My main role is orgainsing timeslot deliveries into Grocery Distribution Centre's & manufacturing outlets. My other duties include Depot Collections and Freight Allocation. During my time here, I have also been studying and have recently finished my course. I have finished my Certificate 3 in Transport and Logistics (Logistics Operations). I would also be very interested in further training and development if the opportunity arose. My day-to-day role is orgainsing the Timeslots (Time Sensitive) for the Melbourne depot. This involves reconsolidating freight that has come in from interstate depots nationally and liaise with suppliers for when they want their freight to be delivered. There are many different products that I have to deal with, these averaging from pallets, skids, cartons & bundles. I email or phone the distribution centre's or manufacturing outlets for the timeslots allocated or available on the due date. I organise the freight into the deliveries or due date. Some freight is not available to be dispatched straight away; in this case, the freight is normally just put into one section of the depot. I will then allocate specific drivers their allocated timeslots and paperwork, including pallet control paperwork, (using Chep mate and Loscum dockets), entering in all data accurately and efficiently into Microsoft Excel and Transport Suite. I have to liaise with the distribution centre's in regards to truck breakdowns or trucks running behind schedule. I also have to speak with suppliers, if stock has been rejected for different reasons, and how to rectify these problems. For this role, you have to be able to think on your feet and think clearly. If freight arrives, sometimes as little as 1 hr before it is to be delivered, I have to make sure it's ready to go and that it makes it to the correct truck and is ready for delivery. I am responsible for Depot Collections. This is when customers come to our depot to pick up their freight instead of having it delivered. This involves making sure that their freight has arrived in the depot, that their freight is as ordered, and then calling the customer to let them know that their freight has arrived. In the absence of the Freight Allocator, I am also required to fulfill his role. This involves allocating freight to trucks for deliveries. We do this by ensuring their paperwork is correct, that they have pallet dockets if required, that the freight is here and correct and when completing their run sheet that it is allocated to their PDA. Responsibilities include: • Excellent time management skills • Accurate numerical • Accurate data entry • Working under pressure • Orgainsing correct paperwork • Entry data into MS excel • Excellent communication skills
