  Team Leader / Vehicle Operator / Equipment Operator / Rugby Vice Captain: Dec 07 - present AUSTRALIAN ARMY Team Leader / Vehicle Operator / Equipment Operator / Rugby Vice Captain • Joined the Army's 2/14 Light Horse Regiment and reported to the Operations Supervisor. • Entrusted with the charter to supervise vehicle operations in support of a spectrum of Defence projects within Australia and abroad. • Responsible for tactical business planning, resource supervision, risk management, workplace safety, staff training, personnel administration, operations supervision, fleet coordination, management reporting, technical administration, compliance and external agency liaison. • Supervised a team of 3 staff, crewing an off-road vehicle valued at $2.5 million. • Contributed to the operation of technologically advanced ASLAV vehicles, personally conducting driving in on-road and off-road environments, including extremes of weather and terrain, during daytime and night hours. • Provided advice on spares and maintenance requirements, managed the local supply chain and managed a diverse range of ancillary vehicle systems that involved working with state of the art technology and learning new skills at short notice. • Assisted with vehicle maintenance, including fault-finding, replacing defective parts and general servicing. • Worked closely with external agencies, civilian contractors and foreign Defence staff. • Prepared and delivered lessons on vehicle and equipment operations, including assessing workplace competency and managing scenario based training activities. • Worked long and irregular hours, often working for months on end in high-pressure situations without a single day off. • Operated in shifts and responded to callouts at extremely short notice. • Safely handled explosives and portable machinery, including conducting risk assessments to identify and mitigate risks to life and limb. • Liaised with colleagues to organise logistics, catering, medical, dental, communication, information technology, engineering and other support for prolonged operations in remote areas. • Gained exposure to career development, performance appraisal, performance management, staff administration, postings, promotions and remuneration issues. • Developed a broad range of skills that are directly transferable to a correctional service, customs or border protection environment, including teamwork, problem solving, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, organisational prioritising, customer service, administration, working under pressure and using my initiative. • Worked in remote locations for extended periods of time and deployed abroad to Afghanistan for 9 months. • Held membership on the Rugby Committee and was appointed Vice Captain of the Rugby team for several years.

  Technical Trainee / Team Member: Dec 06 - Nov 07 ARMY RECRUIT TRAINING CENTRE Technical Trainee / Team Member • Completed initial and technical training at numerous leading Defence training establishments. • Successfully graduated from the Recruit Training School in Kapooka, completing a rigorous Defence induction course, undertaking formal training in planning, problem solving, using initiative, teamwork, oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. • Subsequently graduated from the trade-specific school Puckapunyal in vehicle operations, advance weaponry and communications courses, receiving formal training in vehicle operations and maintenance, road safety, fire and emergency services, risk management, convoy operations, transport planning and load configuration. • Conducted a broad range of driving tasks, including the operation of heavy tracked vehicles. • Gained substantial exposure to vehicle maintenance tasks, scheduled servicing, emergency repairs and the removal and installation of vehicle components.
