Machaba Safaris
Project Manager: Project manager: Verneys Camp, Deteema Springs, Deka Camp and Ingwe Pan are all 5 star luxury lodges with 16 to 24 beds located deep within the Hwange National Park, and in the Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe. My role as project manager involved multiple aspects in building of the camp and staff requirements as outlined below. • Scoping of required work and layout of camp facilities required at all camps • Overseeing day to day operations of camp build & staff welfare. • Logistics & Ordering of construction materials required at site. • Arranging border clearance of materials into Zimbabwe required for camp build. • Overseeing planning & construction of both back of house accommodations & facilities and front house clients facilities • Arranging of local transport to deliver goods & Materials to all camps • Liaising with transport contractors from South Africa, Botswana and local Zimbabwean delivering materials to sight and unloading and reloading into smaller vehicles to transport to camp, thereafter. • Compiling Bill Of Quantities in liaison with Master Carpenter • Building of new game drive road and maintenance of existing roads. • Design workshop & associated facilities • Oversee borehole drilling & installation of pumps. • Oversee staff rotations. • Ensure all operations are EMA (Environmental Management Agency) compliant. • Ordering and procuring of camp build materials • Allocating of staff to various departments • Making daily decisions on operational requirements, transport, fuel, staff rotations. • Supervising camp build food supplies ordering • Allocating fuel for running operations • Liaising with outside contractors involved in installing Solar Power plant, Calcamite sewerage treatment systems, Electrical installations, .Wi-Fi signal masts, interior decorators, kitchen installers, tent installers. • Liaising with Insurance brokers and assessors on claims made for goods damaged en-route to camp. • Reporting on Camp progress to management • Petty cash accounts. • Involved in rescue and relocation of Elephants from Mana Pools National Park to Harare for rehabilitation and release. • Supplying of camping and cooking equipment to Camp throughout camp build process. • Interacting and supervising site inspections of Camp for management, clients and agents.

Product Development Manager: Africa & Middle East Worldventure's is a membership based group travel company with over 500.000 members globally. This year we are operating over 1200 curated group trips (known amongst our members as 'DreamTrips') in Europe alone. I was responsible for creating all inclusive series packages for our members throughout Africa, Mauritius and The Middle East. . My position covered many responsibilities including the following. • Dealing directly with Hotels, Lodges and resorts in regards to negotiating favourable accommodation, meal, activities and transfer rates for our Dream trip packages. • Directly responsible for decision making in regards to properties used in our Dream Trips programs. • Dealing directly with Activities & transfer providers for our Dream trips. • Producing workbooks for each Dream Trip outlining information on the Hotel/Lodge or Resort, activities, itinerary, terms & conditions and pricing. • Contract negotiations with the hotels, Lodges and Resorts for 12 month multi date series of Dream Trips. • Attending trade travel shows for new additional product for Africa, Mauritius and The Middle East. • Logistical support for guide/hosts allocated to Dream trips in my area. • Support to local leaders in all Countries. • Attend and present latest Dream trip releases at regional training conferences 3 times per year.

Camp manager Global Geophysical Seismic: Lokichar Kenya Atlas Development & Support Services specialises in providing infrastructure and logistical support to a variety of Companies involved in oil exploration, seismic exploration and mineral exploration in Kenya and Ethiopia. Whilst working for Atlas in Kenya this rotation I was Camp Manager at Global Camp the clients, Global Geophysical Seismic are currently undertaking 3 D seismic mapping in the Lokichar (Turkana) area. The Camp Managers position was multi-faceted the main responsibilities involved. • Supervise food, beverage and housekeeping (laundry) services for a remote camp of up to 420 people. • Ordering and logistics of transporting all food, water, housekeeping supplies and necessary hardware and equipment needed to run a 420 man camp. • Liaise closely with the operations manager on catering, Housekeeping, Health and Safety issues on a daily basis. • Supervise daily water deliveries to the sight for domestic use. • Implement daily safety checks in line with Quality Health and Safety (QHSE) practices in all departments on Camp. Implement daily tool box meetings on different aspects of Health and Safety both within the camp and off site. • Attend daily heads of department meetings. • Supervising twice weekly Health and Safety inspections done by both Tullow Oil and Weatherford International Health and safety managers. • Compile daily and weekly reports on each department to Head office. • Petty cash accounts. • Undertake basic awareness training in Incident Investigation Training. • Screen local candidates for positions in camp • Meeting with local community leaders on a regular basis. • Project manager for the de-commissioning of Global Seismic camp back to its original natural condition. Disposing of hazardous waste in the correct manner. This involved liaising with Kenyan Government inspectors and our own internal inspectors throughout the process.

Safari Driver/Guide: Kumuka Africa was one of the pioneers of the Trans Africa overland route and successfully operated these multi Country trips from London through to Harare/Johannesburg over a 21 week period for many years. They also developed shorter safaris in East and Southern Africa, using ex German military MAN and Mercedes Benz Unimog trucks. These years helped to develop my passion for Africa and I was able to build a vast knowledge of the Continent and how it works. The Driver & tour leader team work was an essential factor for success when undertaking a journey of this length and diversity of Countries visited. The Bellambi Coal Company Ltd
Apprentice Electrical Fitter: The Bellambi Coal Company extracted coking coal for 2 different seams for export to Japan. Both seams were extracted using different mining techniques. Apprentices were require to spend a certain period of there apprenticeship both in the surface workshop and underground at the workface. Apprentices were allowed 1 day a week to attend technical College for the required Electrical course as required by the Company and the Apprenticeship Directorate. My responsibilities included the repair and maintenance of: • Flameproof and non flameproof motors, both Squirrel cage and Slip ring types ranging up to 6.6 kV 400 kw • Flameproof control systems and machines, & non flameproof starters • Intrinsically safe signalling and communications systems, workshop cranes • Overhead lines and cable reticulation systems ranging up to 33kV • Oil and air circuit breakers • Office and Company domestic wiring • D.C.
