We are seeking a proven road transport operation professional with strong leadership skills to be responsible for the effective management of our Melbourne Depot.
About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has opened up at our Derrimut Depot This role will be responsible for managing logistical operations as well as managing staff and facilities.
Aspects of this role involves management of opening and closing procedures, recruitment, training and equipment management, OH&S, scheduling and working to deadlines and service delivery will come under the control of this position. Wickham Freight Line operates on a 24/7 basis.
This position would suit someone who likes to be challenged and grow with a progressive company.
The successful candidate will have operational management experience in the road transport environment, hands on approach, be able to lead, motivate and empower employees through effective & open communication and excellent leadership.
Position Description:
- Scheduling of work to staff including pick ups, trailers and loads to local and interstate drivers to meet deadlines
- Lead, motivate and empower employees through effective & open communication, excellent leadership, regular performance feedback and team building in order to maximise customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction and team productivity.
- Analyse day-to-day results in the depot operations and take action to meet the depot targets for service quality
- Be able to assist the operations of the depot with a hands on approach where needed
- Establish a customer focused culture by implementing and managing initiatives and tools that aim to achieve customer satisfaction, loyalty and retention
- Use of standard tools and methods to ensure regular reporting, measuring and control of resources
- Promotion of WH&S best practises through leadership and example
- Monitoring and reporting of compliance with WH&S management plan
- Ensure continuous improvement and share best practises implementation
- Explore opportunities to improve service level
- Ensure all resources are focused to achieve high quality service performance
- Ensure staff are trained identifying training needs and implementing programs and people development strategies
- Assist in the recruitment process of truck drivers
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Strong safety culture
- Strong knowledge and understanding in OH&S,
- A hands-on approach and Proven leadership skills
- Previous scheduling/driving background would be advantageous
- Knowledge of National Heavy Vehicle Regulation with Work Diary, Fatigue, Mass and Maintenance would be desirable
- Ability to delegate in an efficient manner
- Intermediate Microsoft office skills
- Ability to adapt and multi task to meet deadlines
- MC licence and forklift licence – desirable
