Worked As Owner/director at Transport Container Services from January 1996 to January 2012
1996 – 2012 – Owner/director/driver Transport Container Services

My position was within my own small transport company which I owned and operated for 15 years. I sourced and organised the pickup and delivery of containers from the Sydney Wharves to customers within the Sydney Metropolitan area. This position involved dealing with Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders organising the delivery of 20ft and 40ft containers to customers within the Sydney area. The containers were picked up from the wharf and when delivered the contents of the containers were hand unloaded or forked off. I was an owner driver so all work was completed by myself with the help of an offsider at times to manually unload.

This position required prime mover and trailer work with up to 40ft containers being hauled. As a driver of this heavy vehicle I encountered a variety of loading docks and tight factory units which needed to be negotiated under difficult conditions. I am an experienced and competent driver and was able to undertake these situations calmly and with ease.

In this role I conferred with all clients and brokers, organised the scheduling of work making sure that it was completed within the very tight time constraints of the wharves regulations. I booked timeslots and manifested containers using the VBS booking system. This job demanded working within a tight schedule and servicing customers to a high standard. It also involved working on a 7 day roster on a 24 hour operational system. Working as a team with mutual respect to deliver a quality and personalised service was the key element to my business.

This role also required knowledge and understanding of working within the framework of the Safe Operating Procedures of the wharves. Commitment to the health and safety of self and others is a priority. The understanding and awareness of risk management and implementing mitigating controls was a standard daily practise in my role.

1984 – 1996 Contract Carrier TNT General Transport Services

This position entailed driving an 8 ton table top truck, within the Sydney and wider country NSW areas. It was a general freight company delivering a variety of goods both bulk and multi drop to customers. I was an owner driver usually on a set run, delivering goods within a time frame. I needed to organise the best route and delivery schedule possible to make this happen. I worked as part of a team of subcontractors usually starting at 5am in the morning. I needed to be flexible as each days plans could change without warning. I liaised with operational managers using radio operations as there was no computer connection.

Worked As Milk Vendor at DAIRY FARMERS from January 1980 to January 1984
1980 – 1984 Milk Vendor
This was my first position after leaving school. I owned and operated my own Milk Run. This encompassed working through the night until the early morning 6 days per week in all weather conditions. I took orders had to calculate the delivery quantities required.
