Worked As Plant Operator/Truck Driver at McIntyre Transport from June 2003 to November 2009
I was originally only employed by McIntyres for the sugarcane harvest as a seasonal (roll on / roll off rail) truck driver in the Isis / bundaberg region, but having purchased a (quarry / mine) in Biggenden mid
season they decided to keep me employed indefinitely. During the next 6 years i would go between both workplaces as required. As a cane truck driver the role was basically using modified skeleton trailers, to winch rope train carriages on and off in between farm sidings and main locomotive pick up sites.
The role at the quarry was far more diverse, initially started delivering road base products, pre coat
screenings, sands and soils etc using HC tipper combination. As time progressed I was using a range of plant equipment daily including CAT and HYUNDAI front end loaders, KOMATSU 30T excavator, CAT
articulated smaller sized dump truck and a BOBCAT feeding crushers / loading trucks and stock piling
etc. As well as the machinery operating i played a hands on role of all pre season maintenance, welding
repairs and fabrication of equipment.
Worked As Cotton Harvesting Contractor at cramax contractors from February 1995 to June 2005
I spent the first 20 years of my working life employed by my eldest brother seasonly in his contract
cotton harvesting business between the months of February and May annually. This was my introduction
to operating heavy equipment and would be the basis for what provided me with the skillset and experience for the many roles in years to come. I would eventually over the years work my way up from
using the garden rake cleaning up spilled cotton to running the entire operation on a daily basis. All of the equipment used in the industry from farming tractors, module press builders, haulout trailers and
harvesters are all oversize, heavy and potentially dangerous. I have uncountable hours of proficient use in tractors of all makes and sizes, John deere and case cotton pickers of all models, boll buggies and module
builders. During the typical 16hr work day i would oversee approximately 16 ground and equipment
staff members. Other duties included mechanical maintenance pre season as well as delivering and pilot
escorting oversize equipment on public highways. During the 20 odd years of cotton harvesting i also purchased a harvester of my own and would act as a sub contractor to my brother as well as maintaining
my role as operations manager for him.Towards the end few years the seasons grew shorter and shorter
due to weather conditions and advancements in harvesting equipment so was no longer viable for me to continue.
Worked As Welder/Fabricator at Gunnedah Industries from May 1996 to February 1997
Building module press builders for the cotton industry. Using all equipment associated with the welding and fabrication on a production assembly line situation. Equipment used.. MIG and ARC welders, oxy torch
cutting and brazing, electric bandsaws, press brake folding machines, guillotine sheet cutting machines,
electric grinding drilling and cutting tools, overhead crane gantry, plasma cutters compressor tools and equipment etc
